Poltergeist | Summoning Caroline | ClipZone: Horrorscapes

The family attempts to call out to Caroline and rescue her from the entity

ABOUT POLTERGEIST
A typical family in a quiet suburb of a normal California faces a frightening ordeal when its home is invaded by a Poltergeist. Late one night, 10-year-old Carol Anne Freeling (Heather O’Rourke) hears a voice coming from inside the television set … At first, the spirits that invade the Freeling’s home seem like playful children. But then they turn angry. And when Carol Anne is pulled from this world into another, Steve and Diane Freeling (Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams–In the Land of Women) turn to an exorcist (Zelda Rubinstein) in this horror classic from director Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre films) and producer and screenwriter Steven Spielberg.

  1. I know there's a lot of back and forth about whether or not Hooper directed the movie or Spielberg. But, the second half of this clip, where they're getting ready to open the door, has the definite Spielberg stamp. In fact if I had never known that Hooper directed it, I would use this as an example of one of Spielberg's "Oners". It's a beautiful single shot starting at 5:16 here. Closeup of the tennis ball with the guy writing a number on it. Tangina calls out a couple final things to make sure they are ready, and the camera pulls back to include the rest of the team. Tangina walks down to the center of frame, filling the center with other characters behind her. Camera drops lower to have Diane and Steven fill out the head space. Camera moves up so that Steven dominates the frame now. Camera moves in to Diane, removing Craig, then finally moves back to Tangina where she says her "Clear your minds" speech. Finish with camera moving on to the doorknob. It's an amazing shot.

  2. "Now clear your minds, it knows what scares you. It has from the very beginning. Don't give it any more help; it knows too much already. Now, open the door." And the camera focuses on the doorknob. In the theater, when this came out, the screams from the audience at this point were insane. Because no one knew what was beyond that door. We were terrified, and that buildup was just perfect.

  3. This is and always will be my favorite horror movie. The characters are so well-crafted, and they're just good, ordinary people you can relate to. No dark pasts, secrets, or convoluted traumas. That's why you care so much about what happens to them. Everyone acts very well, but for me, JoBeth Williams should have at least been nominated for an Oscar. Her performance is simply brilliant (7:15).
And while I love all the craziness of the third act (which we might as well call the fourth), this entire sequence in this video is the best part of the movie. It literally completely captures your mind and soul for 9 minutes.
And at this point, I have no doubt that this film was actually directed by Spielberg, not Hopper. His signature is literally on every shot. A masterpiece.

  4. Disgusting how so many people in western capilist society, exploit tragedies and suffering.
We can't trust anyone in the west because of it. Most people are fake and full of chit.

Politcians exploit suffering and bad things, media loves when bad things happen, black lives matter loved exploiting racism and a mans death, so did the Politcians and media.
Methadone doctors exploiting drug addiction, greasy lawyers exploiting crimes and tragedies and so on.

Everything about a capilist society just makes my skin crawl anymore and you know what's the saddest part.
The people disagreeing with me or upset with what I'm saying, their only defense ever is deflection.
For years i just keep hearing, "what about communism!"

Lol they don't even try to defend capitalism, just immediately compare it to communism because we been groomed to react that way. With everything anymore, i mean try talking to a republican or democrat lol. All they do is blame eachother. Our society sucks. It's like admitting we suck and capitalism is flawed but "at least we're not as bad as communists or Stalin" lol.

What made me say this, was remembering these psychics scamming people in the 80s and 90s. Exploiting people's suffering and tragedies. Call Jo Jo now. Lol.
Like this creepy little woman here. Sickening eh. I share a society full pf bad people willing to exploit others and tragedies and dumb gullible people that full for it. Imagine how hard it is to go through life knowing this and surrounded by fake, dumb and bad people lol. It's fcking depressing.

Critical thinking skills are so lacking. I blame Hollywood, capitalism and zionism for our flaws.

  5. This movie was touching imo in the sense that they acknowledged the mother as having the strongest bond with her child..You would think it would be common sense, but there are those who argue it.

I was terrified of this movie, but what always got me through was knowing my mom would go and get me too ❤ The mom being the hero was the best part. Go get your baby!

  6. And that's what I thought about Donald Trump. He opened up a Porter that shouldn't have never opened. So you see, I hope this happened around 2016. Everything change b** I guess I'm the only one can see that.
    Pray and be watchful.

  7. That reminds me crossing over. And I think that's why all of those dead people's come to me when I was starting my story.
They died for no reason so they needed to cross. And peoples wanna walk around and act like they somebody but somebody to Satan. Because there's no way God, whatever do a thing like that.
To someone that haven't done a thing to no one so remember papers. Be kind to one another, open your Bible. Which says love your neighbor as yourself. But I do know a lot of you.Cannot love your neighbors because you're jealous of real neighbors customer

  8. To me one of the greatest movies ever made. Tangina Barrons one of the best and deepest characters in movie history. Miss you Ms. Zelda Rubenstein, for ever! Hope you are in light now🌹🌹🌹

  9. This scene has to be the hardest tonal shift I've ever seen in a movie. It goes from hopeful, (she's alive) to having such a beautiful vision (the afterlife where friends and loved ones are waiting to guide you to new destines), to absolute terror (to us, it's the beast).

  10. CROSSOVER CHILDREN ALL ARE WELCOME ALL WELCOME…. That one line has haunted me literally MY ENTIRE LIFE.. simply because I have a family member who has been legally deceased 9 TIMES😮 and I can tell you there is definitely more realms than just THIS ONE…..❤

  11. I have a very dear family member who has been legally deceased nine times on paper by doctors. THE REALM THAT TANGINA SPEAKS OF IS REAL….❤ I know this is a really good movie but there are things in real life that CANNOT BE EXPLAINED BY SCIENCE

  12. Spielberg is a genius! I would love to see him make a Bond with 100% directorial control. I would also like to see him make a Stephen King adaptation, one of King's best such as 22,11,63 or Salem's Lot.

  13. Moden horror pales in comparison to this masterpiece because the fear is mostly tangible from the words that are spoken not some jump scare or CGI effect! Just listening to her still give me shivers!
