Were the Transformers Coneheads an Accident… or Hasbro’s Smartest Fix?

Discover everything you need to know about the Coneheads Thrust, Dirge & Ramjet — from toys to comics to cartoons. A full Coneheads Thrust, Dirge & Ramjet retrospective exploring their history, mythology, and origins.

The Story of how a toy mistransformation gave three Decepticons traffic cones for heads—and accidentally made them unforgettable.

TRANSFORMERS RAMJET ,THRUST and DIRGE began as a design workaround in 1985, but somehow became one of the strangest legacies in Transformers history. In this video, I break down how Thrust, Ramjet, and Dirge went from retooled Seekers to pointy-headed punchlines—and why there’s way more going on under those cones than the cartoon ever let on. From tech specs and tragic personalities, to brutal comic book endings, toy collecting nightmares, and the bizarre afterlife of their designs, this is a deep dive into how an “iconic mistake” became a permanent part of Decepticon history.

Rundowns of vintage and new Transformers and G.I. Joe toys
Behind-the-scenes stories from comics and animation

Every toy in my collection has a story, how I came upon it, why I bought it or even just some random or obscure bit of info about it. Admittedly not all of them are amazing, funny or interesting…but I think some of them are, and I’d like to tell you about them…one toy at a time.

  1. Which of the three do you think got done the dirtiest by Transformers media: Thrust, Ramjet, or Dirge?

And if you’re a collector—what was your worst Conehead hunt story? BotCon pain? Cancelled two-packs? eBay trauma?

  2. at 1624 that white Decepticon car i forget his name i think he is why Ramjet is phased out of season 3 and not really season again . my favorite of the 3 was Ramjet i always wish they made more characters using the Coneheads mold . also in season 3 it seems like all the background seekers that look like Starscream, Thundercracker ,Skywarp from season 1 and 2 disappeared to did some of them become sweeps to and that could be why the always seemed to clone themselves . like the insecticons .i do wish in Dark Awaken they listed all the Autobots who may have died before the movie and in the movie then in Starscream Ghost all the Decepticons who died before the movie and in the movie to other then Skywarp and Thundercracker when they found the decepticon Crypt .so many fans have their favorite characters stuck in limbo and they don't know what happen me mine was Prowl and Thundercracker and you know what happen to them .

  3. All of these random clip arts makes this very hard to watch. I guess unless you know every little pop culture reference these make no sense. If you want a better video just stick to telling the story and stop with all the extra stuff that has nothing to do with the subject.

  4. I only had two Seekers as a kid, Thrust and Skywarp. Thrust was my version of Starscream, while Skywarp was the Decepticon Leader since I wasn't allowed to have toy guns. Never did the conehead thing, though.

  5. They're designs are fun but maybe a little too silly looking for some stories.

On a another note i absolutely love the trend to turn the cones into pompadours in fan designs

  6. Thundercracker (a great thug!) Aka Blundercracker as Jazz called him became Scourge and the 3 insecticons became The Sweeps

Bombshell (insecticon) OR Skywarp became Cyclonus (i thought it was bombshell) but Skywarp has more charisma and retaining any of their former selves Bombshell was cruel, simple and not as independent as any of the seekers.
    So that accounts for
    Meg
    Thunder
    Skywarp
    3 insecticons.

Who else got clobbered and ejected to become the 'Armada' of Cyclonus aka movie Cannon fodder?
    Frenzy?
    Ratbat?
Perceptor (3 of those would make good smaller versions jet fodder)

  7. Dirge has always been my favourite Conehead; my head canon is that he's actually affected by his own power, and that morose appearance of his is actually due to a focusing technique he uses to block it out…

Thankfully, I'm really not that fussed about the new Studio Series Seekers (too cartoony for my tastes), so barring any unique characters they use them for, I'll be saving money there…

  8. My favourite conehead changes. Personality-wise it has to be Dirge. Jet mode has to be Thrust. But there's something about Ramjet too that i can't quite put my finger on.

  9. Wait, I thought Thrust became Cyclonus and Dirge is that other silent Cyclonus in the background (even though it's probably an error in the G1 movie😅).
