Inside an Apocalyptic American Ghost Town vacant since 2012

Yellow Dog Village was a small company town in western Pennsylvania, near Worthington in Armstrong County, created in the early 1900s to house workers for nearby limestone mining operations. Built by the Pittsburgh Limestone Company, the village provided homes close to the mines at a time when travel was difficult. Its unusual name came from “yellow dog contracts,” agreements that required workers to promise not to join labor unions, reflecting the labor tensions common in industrial America during that era.

The village thrived for several decades, but as mining declined through the mid-20th century, jobs disappeared and residents gradually moved away. Environmental and infrastructure problems, including unsafe water, eventually forced the remaining families to leave by the early 2000s. Today, Yellow Dog Village is largely abandoned and privately owned, standing as a reminder of Pennsylvania’s company-town history and the rise and fall of the region’s industrial economy.

EDIT : It hurts me to say this, but the day before this video was uploaded, on Dec 19th 2025, the owners home caught on fire after years of fixing up one of the former Yellow Dog Homes, if you’re interested in helping Latif out with a couple extra bucks, that would be appreciated https://gofund.me/122cbcf63

  1. Thank you for watching! This is one of my favorite places I've had the pleasure of learning about and documenting, from the history, to the views, to the animals. This village is so calming, yet humbling, and if you want to visit the place yourself, you can visit the website here, https://yellowdogvillage.com/

This isn't a paid promotion. I just want to show love to people who are interested in preserving history!

  2. 👍very enjoyable video. Glad I found yr channel. Love the animals. You mentioned turning these homes into vacation homes. So cool. Hope it comes to fruition. Id dig going there. Keep up the good work

  3. 35:43 I also didn’t notice one of the upstairs sheep peeking out the window on the first time I watched this video 😂 Also I didn’t hear you say “Are you going to peck my camera” to the chicken 😂

  4. I live down around Uniontown in Fayette County, about an hour south of Pittsburgh, and I travel around the area exploring abandoned buildings, forgotten towns, and weird Lovecraftian backwaters–but I've NEVER heard of Yellow Dog Village before today! Now I absolutely must go there to look around and hang out with the fella that owns the place. As my family (predominantly Croatian in origin) were all coal miners and staunch union supporters, I should probably piss on one of the houses to show the ghosts of the damn yellow dogs what I think of them, but, hell, they're all long dead….

  5. Yellow Dog Village was to be restored and made into an enclave for artisans & craftsmen. People could live there & create their wares, educate visitors on what they were doing, and sell what they made. I wanted to move there so badly (c. 2000 perhaps). It saddens me to see what's happened.

  6. Dude, you identify so many things wrong in every video. Not sure why you don’t know the basic things. Geese – Ducks, shingles – tiles, wood stove – homade oven, attic pink room – basement 😑 – etc ugh 😑
Guess that’s what makes The Proper People the best

  7. Dang. This has to be your best work yet. I disagree, btw. The first street was definitely the best. You know that scene in 'Big Fish'? The town with the string of lights down the centre? That's all I could picture. People sharing their lives from the porch. I'm glad you survived the geese, too. And I do eat meat. But I'm Christian, and I lean towards respecting the food God provides me. Anyway, thanks for another brilliant video. Take care out there

  8. I live in a mining town in Canada called Levack. There are several different mines in town, they are Nickel mines so they are still active. I am not in a house as old as those. My house is a 1954.

  9. Also the house you said was the biggest and your favorite of all was definitely built after all the other home around the same time maybe a manager of the mines or supervisor because this new in the basement if it would have been built before the 1910s and most likely would have had stone walls and didn't it had wolves just like the other house

  10. The Roaster was just a roaster. Can't believe you said combination deep fryer. I know you're younger than me but the mother should have something similar or grandmother. Should really do more of your research before you say with these things are on your videos. I'd rather you go back and add it over and say what they truly are and hear something stupid like that. And I think that was kind of animal cruelty of the owners of this property for not getting that poor goat veterinary care if his leg is hurt. The working for free for them cutting grass least I could do is help them out.

  11. This makes me so sad. At one time, these were beautiful, cared for homes. You won't see these traditional style homes being built anymore.😢

  12. That town radiates a good vibe. Love it. Great explore ! Wipes away the bad vibes of that old funeral home you did a few weeks back. Good stuff best wishes and happy Christmas from Ireland 🇮🇪

  13. I was like don't walk up to those geese. I can't count how many times at the park they chase and attack people. I had a good chuckle when they started following you. Lmao

  14. The MILLION DOLLAR question: Are you good enough to go to Heaven? Answer honestly: Have you ever lied, stolen (regardless of value), or looked with lust? Jesus said "whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Guilt results in an eternal Hell because God is Holy. Imagine a man in a courtroom; a criminal guilty of serious crimes. He is tried, convicted, and sentenced to life or a fine of a MILLION DOLLARS. when the judge steps down and pays his fine! Even though he's still guilty, his fine has been paid and justice has been satisfied! The judge was both merciful and just. This is what Jesus did for sinners. While fully God and fully man, Jesus lived a sinless life. In love He took the wrath of God and penalty for sin on Himself on the Cross. Then He rose from the grave, showing the penalty paid. What should you do? God commands you to repent and trust in Jesus ALONE. Don't trust in "good works?" Cry out to God for mercy and put your faith in Jesus, confessing and forsaking your sins. God will change your heart so you will desire Holiness. Make peace with God today; you may not have tomorrow. Eternity is worth much more than a MILLION DOLLARS!
