Dark, Dirty and Dangerous – Kuta at night

Walking or even riding through Kuta at night is not safe and is downright depressing. Many of the iconic bars have shut down or been demolished, the hundreds of tattoo and souvenier shops are closing early because the tourists are not hanging around anymore.
Even on a Saturday night around 11pm the place is nearly a ghost town!!

  1. Yeah unfortunately I won't be staying in Kuta again it is Legian for me. Last trip we spent half in Kuta and half in Legian and the place we stayed in kuta was four times the price of Legian and yet I would have gladly gone back to the cheaper place in Legian just for the better atmosphere and bars and more happening.

  2. the common line is how peaceful balinese are, until you don’t want to pay a tip for every little thing. These supposed peaceful and polite people can turn in an instant into something quite nasty.

  3. Good , I’m haft Indo/oz
    Been going Bali since 70s
When it was just a surf inland
    not full of disrespectful
    block heads (boganistic)

Be careful MURRAY how you speak to a Indo
    MATE
    And yes
I’ve herded you speaking to them like a typical Bogan
(There maybe a reason for all your karma)
You are a bit like a boganistic
    They(indos / Balinese )
    have had enough
    Since the 80s
    like everyone
there’s only so much anyone ( man/woman) can take
Bali does not need to clean up their act
    People need to be respectful
( I’ve punched on with plenty of ozys ( young or old don’t give a F)
for being disrespectful and will continue to do so)
    It is not Thailand
    Desperate people
    Do desperate things
    Hey overall
Not going to be much different here
    Keep safe brother
    We need to meet

  4. I was there in January this year. I am 64 single female traveller. I did enjoy my time but I won't rush back. I stayed at Legian (which I liked it being busy), but I was scared of slipping over, with the slippery tiles, as footpaths, all around Legian. It is a pity they laid them, I saw a few people slip over

  5. Doing a lot of damage, mate Crime rate of Bali plummeted by 16.67% from 72 crimes per 100000 inhabitants in 2019 to 60 crimes per 100000 inhabitants in 2020. Since the 2.78% rise in 2013, crime rate sank by 59.46% in 2020. Latest figures I could find.

  6. I don't like continuously getting accosted on the beach by the hagglers selling cheap crude knock-offs. Just leave me enjoy a drink and the view but no. Swarm of them

  7. We where in the bali bomb not nice at all …just arrived the day before sailing from Australia in our little catamaran with my girlfriend now wife I was 20yrs old kuta was pumping back then but man those where good times at benoa harbor marina only yachtys left on the island with not a tourist to be seen for 6months surfing with no one at ulus for a year all the other Indonesians from other islands left cause no work …a few hookers stayed and basically took up residency in the marina cause the only money was there ..the bali marina ended up having to put up a huge no prostitute sign at the entrance 😂😂 …bittersweet times

  8. Pity up till covid I visited Kuta quite regularly since 1987! What they have done to Poppies1 is heartbreaking, what price tourist $$! Hopefully Bamboo CRN is still there, the cheapest freshest Nazi Goering in Kuta. Don't think the Engine room can keep that area going alone without Paddys and Bounty! Sad but we have our memories of how good it was.

  9. Coincidence maybe but I watched a video only yesterday of a young guy walking down the main road of Kuta. I’ve only ever spent time in Nusa Dua and a day in Ubud so it was unrecognisable to me, plus I have no “kuta of yesteryear” to compare to.

Anyway, this young guy YouTuber was offered class A drugs 4 times in about 20 minutes.

    Sad times.

Thanks for uploading Murray. Good advice as always.

  11. Gday Muzz, i believe the problem is Kuta during the day has become far less "Family Friendly" which will obviously roll over into peoples desire to visit during the night.
Its a shame to say, but i watched a family leaving waterbom a couple of weeks ago and the locals that hang about near the ATM's flat out asked a mother and father with their kids if they wanted some hard drugs. Just unbelievable really.

  12. Muzza, it's been flat lining since the start of covid. Unfortunately, the new generation is all about Canggu. I still love old Bali, yet detest the new style Bali Unfortunately.

  13. Been to Bali about 70 times over the years Thailand shits all over Bali for night life and less crime than Bali it's a longer flight but heaps better food night life the good times of Bali of the early 80s and early 90 s rip Bali will never get my tourist money any more Thailand will do me from now on

  14. Stop scare mongering. Its perfectly safe. Daytime it has a busting life. Night theres still a few great bars with live music. Your on the main street. A lot of life on Poppies Lane II, always alive. I walk around Kuta day and night. Never a problem. The only problem's i've seen in Bali is dumb Aussies.

  15. Remember when I could walk by myself from Bemo corner to Mandira by myself at 2.00 am. Knew it would come to this. It will be rebuilt, but not immediately. I havent been back for 10 years and have no intention to do so. So sorry for the genuine Balinese, but we loved it to death. X

  16. Not just kuta thats got downhill, its all of bali. Tourism has awful consequences to small countries like this unfortunately…

Not sure why anyone would choose Bali over Thailand, makes no sense what so ever
