  1. What is so messed up about this story? It's a story for children. Adults reading in per-v-erted stuff into it doesn't make the story messed up. Clickbait BS. I thought he'd go into the details of the rat king, i.e. it's a fused mass of rats, some dead and some alive, some cannibalising themselves.

  2. I'm going to go on a rant here.

Good Times Entertainment, and the 1990 cartoon adaptation, actually get close to the original story. Granted, take out the blood and presumed rat poop.

  3. My favorite version of this was the 1990 version The Nutcracker Prince. It featured the backstory and had the voice of Yosemite Sam play the King of Uncle Drossilmeier’s homeland.

  4. The critics should have been impressed that anyone could come up with a coherent, memorable story for the ballet out of that unpleasant, convoluted, never-ending mishmash of a story.

  5. Not me thinking that I was about to watch something wild and then realizing that I know this story already because my childhood staple The Nutcracker Prince was in fact a very faithful adaptation of the book.

  6. My grandmother always bought me a Nutcracker. Some how something would happen to them and I'm down to one. My 93 year old Nana bought me a Nutcracker last year. I still have him. I love Nutcrackers. ❤

  7. I grew up with The Nutcracker Prince 1990 – this version seems closer than most. Pretty cool. This was one of my favorite movies. My grandmother Alice bought it for me when I was a little girl.

  8. I'm gonna go see the Nutcracker soon and I'm so excited I absolutely love it no matter what I always want to see it every year it's a family tradition for me

  9. We were at a live performance of the ballet earlier tonight. The Ballet Theater of Scranton's 50th anniversary show. Since it a gift to the community it was free but that means tickets are limited. I've always wanted to see it live. My partner's mom stood in line for the tickets. Me, my partner, there mom and brother and the mom's boyfriend all went. My kid was already at her play date and it was a spur of the moment otherwise she would have been there too. Next year my partner is going to stand in line for the tickets so we can bring my kid. She is only 9 and has never seen a ballet so I don't know if she would have enjoyed it.

  10. I think Leigh Bardugo did a really interesting retelling of the Nutcracker in the Language of Thorns, it has some very Frankenstein like elements sprinkled in but it mainly deals with themes of changing desires, the creation being an extension of the creator and if a living object with a specific purpose is allowed wants, would highly recommend the book if you like fairy tale retellings

  11. The idea that the two get married is being viewed like a little girls playtime story, this is the cute child princess marrying the handsome life protecting prince. It’s just a cute story.

  12. I remember watching a nutcracker animated movie as a kid, and the plot was very very close to the original story and the girl's name is Marie but I forget the title of the movie 🙁

  13. It seems like a interesting story but man the segment on the prince's backstory was kind of a slog. I can understand why the ballet would want to breeze past some of that
