  3. Nah. My house is less than 15 years old yet the amount of demons and ghosts there are more than the Conjuring's house. It's usually the land that affected the house, not directly the age of the house itself. (And what kind of people used to live on the land or house)

  4. Most likely the souls of deceased people who lived in that house. I'm Catholic and one of our beliefs is that we should pray for the holy souls in Purgatory, because every prayer said for them, cleanses their souls a little more. So we believe that whenever a weird and ghostly thing like this happens ( a harmless thing, but still bone chilling), it's the soul of someone in Purgatory trying to ask for prayers (typically a deceased loved one – in my experience anyway). Usually, it's just strange sounds like footsteps, tapping on glass, or the dropping of an object (and sometimes hearing a voice).

I was in the shower once when I was home alone, and I heard the door creak open and I said, "I'm in the shower" and I very clearly heard my little cousin say, "Come on, let's go outside!" I immediately stopped the water and said, "*cousin's name*?" Then I heard her say, "Hurry up!" and the door creaked again and it wouldn't stop, like someone was pulling it back and forth. I was freaking out because my cousin had drowned a month earlier. I said a prayer for her soul outloud and the creaking stopped and I didn't hear anything further.

Another case is I was sleeping over at a friend's house, and I woke up to her hyperventilating in the middle of the night. I asked her why and she told me to listen. We went quiet and heard heavy footsteps. She whispered to me that her and her family had been hearing that every Saturday morning starting at 3:12 am ever since her grandpa had died, and it usually lasted for 20 minutes. I asked her if she recognized the footsteps, and she said it sounded exactly like her grandpa when he used to come in from gardening. My friend isn't Catholic, but she said a prayer for his soul with me and the footsteps stopped almost immediately.

One more case wasn't an experience of mine, but of a friend (different friend than that of the previous incident). She told me that once, she was home with her sister, and things kept falling off the shelves in their house. They do not have a cat, and their house is perfectly level and EVERYTHING was falling off the shelves. She told me she called for her sister after a vase broke, and her sister came running in. They started asking each other if they were knocking things on the ground but they continued to hear things being dropped. Then they heard their dog growling, and they went to investigate. Sure enough, he was growling at a corner in the kitchen. My friend told me they thought that maybe the dog had been knocking everything off, until they saw their fruit bowl slide right off the kitchen table by itself. She said the dog's eyes kept following something and the dog started barking. My friend and her sister said a prayer for all the souls in Purgatory, and the crazy stuff stopped happening.

    Anyway, sorry for the essay.

  5. A wood house lasting 200 years? That's weird. Just because people died in it, doesn't mean it's haunted. When you move into a new home, it is the norm to call your priest to bless it. When you don't do that, all the energy from previous people, linger on you. It's disgusting. Just like moving in and not cleaning up before using the bathroom and the kitchen. It's like drinking out of a bottle used by someone else. Once the priest blessed the house, it can become a home.

  6. Oh I know about living in a real haunted house. Over time a lot of things just become a normal part of life, don't notice until someone comes over and mentions sounds and things that go bump. In 19 years, only twice which amounted to about a week each time, did I feel enough fear I considered leaving.
