The guy cat calling the oldest daughter was Billy in Predator, also Billy Bear in 48 Hours
@holddowna Some people used to roll their own cigarettesback when this was made so the mom is just smoking. Also tv channels back then actually had down time a time when they went off air. They played the national anthem and flag to anounce they were going off air and then anounce what time they would come back on air.
Bravo! Loved your reaction to this and ghostbusters. The after-music score reminds me a bit of Edward scissor hands. The thrill seeker in me loves to watch spooky movies before bed, just to have a good livid dream. I like to keep a bit of Syfy in my rem sleep.
The Staircase Scene and the Guard Dog scene's will forever live in my soul as some of the best Scary Moments in cinematic history.
Back when this used to be The United States of America TV stations would sign off for the night by playing the National Anthem.
HOLD DOWN A YOU'RE SO 😋😋😋🔥🔥🔥!💓💓💓
This movie franchise is cursed. Between part 1 and part 2, the teenage girl got strangled to death by her boyfriend. After part 2 the little girl dies in real life as does another main character.
⛄´🔪.
Pulled your hamstring?!?!?!?!
I was the same age as the actress who played Carol Ann when I first saw this, ever since, shadows at night creep me out. And the theme song … so much PTSD from this movie.
Sad that the sisters both passed away just as their careers were getting started. Dominique Dunne was filming a series V when she was killed and Heather ORouke died of an illness before her 3rd Poltergeist movie came out.
Spielberg mentioned he liked to put children into the mix as it adds to the terror great reaction btw.
This movie is still gripping and terrifying 50 years later.
The ghost of Uri Geller showed up at the breakfast table.
All he had ti do was turn his TV channel manually. No problem.
@29:08 The actress who played the medium (Zelda Rubinstein) was also the organist at the wedding in Sixteen Candles.
This film definitely has the Spielberg magic.
Fun Fact: the hands that ripped the face off the guy in the bathroom scene were those of Steven Spielberg himself.
Apparently at the end of a broadcast day, they’d play the national anthem and the tv would only show static til the morning.
Very unsettling regardless.
You get so many more answers about it in the second movie which i really recommend!
All they had to do is bind that devil, in the name of Jesus and i that evil spirit, would have gone away.
Yep it's not right at all, to call out a young girl like that, the 80s, definitely was a different time.
I remember guys in their twenties, picking up 15/16/17 year old girls at the high school I went to In the 80s😶 this was quite normal.
You should watch part 2 and I would love for you to see the 1994 the Crow with Brandon Lee
Oh I definitely had a crush on Jobeth williams I was 15 years old when I seen this in the theater…she is a babe
You should do a react to True Hollywood Story documentary on the Poltergeist curse.
Yup, were old. TV used to got "off the air". LOL
Except on Saturdays, when all the low budget horror/monster movies used to play…Elvira Mistress of the Dark.
THIS ONE SAID AS CURSE MOVIE . THAT CUTIE PATOOOTIE DIE AND OTHER CAST DIE . REAL HUMAN BONES USE IN MOVIE WITHOUT TELLING THE CASTS . THAT BLONDIE KID IS SO CUTE AND DIE IN YOUNG AGE . THAT SO SAD .
Jo Beth Williams was a beautiful gal back in The day! A lot of sex appeal!
My buddy and I went to see this when I was 13. I spent the next 3 nights sleeping on the floor of my parents bedroom.
I'm 51 and don't know if I watched any film more than this as a child (thanks to VHS tapes). Maybe not even Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones or Wrath of Khan.
Great reaction, you really touched on all the elements that make this such a fantastic film! I remember being around 5 when this came out, and my parents had the movie showtimes page in the newspaper open so we could decide on a movie to go see. There were two large ads for "E.T." and "Poltergeist," and I distinctly remember my mom asking me which one out of the two I wanted to see more (I'm assuming since both were "PG" and had Spielberg's name on them). I chose ET, and I still thank 5-year-old me to this day for making the right choice. 🙂
Not so fun fact, the skeletons used in the pool scene when the mom falls in (and the ones that pop out of the ground in their coffins) are REAL skeletons, the director thought props wouldnt be realistic enough and also didnt inform the actors before hand, the actress who plays the mom said that she would never have done the scene if she had known
When my daughter was 4 years old this was her favorite movie. She would only watch it with me. She was very smart and I talked to her about how movies are made and that that the actors are pretending.
We watch it every day. Never had a nightmare or jumped into bed with me in the middle of the night.🤷♂️
She's been a tough girl all her life. She's 22 now and she's never been afraid of the dark.
That's one of my favorite parts of the movie. Where the guy's bragging about having seen a toy car move 8 inches. The dad's trying so hard to not roll his eyes. Then he opens the bedroom door and they about pee their pants.
16:06 that kid did the most terrifying scene of all time
34:36 the best love scene
43:16 the best VFX scene of the '80s
EVERYONE fell in love with Carol Anne…………
A cursed film
What happened to your neck?
2:00 nothing wrong with that tree… lol
8:10 TV broadcasts would stop at night.
33:00 If I’m not mistaken, the light coming from the closet was shining through fish tanks.
39:20 They built a room that could rotate.
No, she's more of a small…
The parody of this movie in 'Scary Movie' was very funny! Tori Spelling chasing the ghost around. The ghost saying "It was just a booty call". Cracks me up.
Poltergeist 3 is my favorite. I would duck under the mirror to go to the bathroom till i was 15. Lol
I love your show for the first time checking it out I love this movie for all the reasons you mentioned
I still feel anxiety when i watch this i used to be traumatized to the point that my father had to take the tv out of my room and VHS tape 😅
They are more than super sweet parents. I can't think of any parent that's done more for their kids than the Freelings and how Steve felt about his wife when he thought she was gone. They really love each other.
Because of his studio contract Spielberg could only direct one movie that year and he'd already done ET so Tobe Hooper directed this though it's believed Spielberg was really the one in the director's chair. And the dog is Steven Spielberg's. It's the same one in ET. That dog had a busy year.
Love this movie 😅
Before cable TV, when there were only 3-5 channels, they were required to go off-air at a specific time. They’d say “goodnight” by playing patriotic images to the National Anthem. Then go to static until the local morning news came on.
In my cinema waiting to go in for the 9 pm show you could hear the audience reactions through the door. What an amazing time!
