Poltergeist II: The Other Side

This effects-heavy installment is the inevitable sequel to one of the more effectively spooky and financially successful horror films of the ’80s. The Freeling family is trying to grapple with the devastation wrought by the ghosts and ghouls that destroyed their lives. Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), and their kids, Carol Anne (Heather O’Rourke) and Robbie (Oliver Robins), have been reduced to living in the home of Diane’s mother, Jess (Geraldine Fitzgerald) because the insurance company refuses to believe what happened to their house. The Freelings are unfortunately unable to escape patches of unholy ground living in a house that is just as haunted as the last. The evil spirit of the mad cult leader Kane (Julian Beck) has returned in an effort to kidnap Carol Anne. After realizing what’s happening, the Freelings call upon the psychic medium Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein) for help, and are aided by a benevolent Native American spiritualist, Taylor (Will Sampson).

Life was awesome back then I miss it
I love the first few minutes of this movie. The shaman reminds me so much of my late grandfather. May your spirit soar with the eagles pampa!!! 😢
The scene with the Taquila is the only one that truly messes me up. Most freeky scenes here are only a 14 on a scale of 1 – 10, but that Taquila? it's like 25 or so…
i’m here for 37:30–44:05 & 1:10:27
Brian Gibson the director also directed the short film with
Styx , Killroy was here in 1983 🤖 🤔 🤫 🫣 🤐 🥁 🎸 🎤 he died when he was about 60 from cancer
I am so obsessed with Will Sampson, how he was chosen for the role. the entire cast I love with all my heart . rip all those in it who are gone and love to everyone still on this place…we will all meet again
The Freelings are back in the second chapter of the Poltergeist Trilogy. Heather O’Rourke returns as Carol Anne in her second movie, the other cast of the characters are JoBeth Williams returning as Diane. Also returning Craig T Nelson who played Diane’s husband Stephen, including Oliver Robbins returning as Robbie. Zelda Rubinstein returning as Tangina. And introducing 2 new characters who is also appearing on Poltergeist 2. The first character is Julian Beck who played the evil preacher named Reverend Henry Kane. And finally the native american actor who appeared in other movies in the 1970’s is Will Sampson. He teamed up with Jack Nicholson (AKA The Shining) from the 1975 movie One Fell Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Will also teamed up with John Hillerman (AKA Higgins) from Magnum P.I., & Larry Wilcox (AKA Jon Baker) the star of CHiPs from the 1979 TV movie Relentless. And finally Will also teamed up with Robert Urich who starred as Dan Tanna from the TV show VEGA$ in 1979. My aunt rented this movie when it finally came out on VHS in the fall of Thanksgiving Day in November of 1986.
Zelda was funny. I love her.
Rest in Peace Will Samson, and Heather O'Roarke. You did a wonderful job back in the day.
She was adorable child 😢
Damn all 3 of those kids are dead
Wow, what an unpleasant film summary! They don't even list Julian Beck in the cast credits?!! The original was 'effects-heavy' too. It also had a much less interesting script & was WAY too screamy. And it wasn't 'inevitable'. It was necessary & wrapped up the story perfectly. The third installment, if one must call something inevitable, was unnecessary & a cash-grab.
38:30 Anyone else notice how they 'age' Kane through the whole scene! He starts out looking almost-normal, jovial, human-like. As he tries harder & harder to persuade Stephen, you see his face become paler & gaunt, his smile scarier. Then…when he realizes he lost this battle, his "normal" appearance returns. Chilling as anything!
40:00 What is most terrifying about Reverend Kane (outside of his appearance & the fact he is now a demon merged with his human-self) is how charismatic he is! He is not in-your-face Evil…he entrances, hypnotizes, gaslights, tempts, manipulates. Like most powerful Evil, he twists truth into the lies….which make it much more dangerous. Stephen really had a battle of wills with Kane here.
JoBeth Williams is so beautiful. She just gets more beautiful with years.
1:24:10 BEST. BADDIE-DEFEAT SCREAM EVER! Even surpasses the Queen's scream in the film Aliens. That is near-impossible to do! Excellent, solid ending to Poltergeist II. They did not need Part 3 at all.
I love this sequel. I still don't get the flak it got. I enjoyed the original, it has iconic scenes. But Part 2 has MUCH better flow, awesomely-amazing characters, a better more interesting script & a solid-ending. It surpasses the over-screamy, slower-paced original.

Spooky her saying she don’t want to grow up much.
Tv version this is getting ridiculous. The same movies that were free before were the original version and now there changing them to tv versions probably because they don’t want to pay the money to have them on for free so they thought they would try to fool us as the same movies have been free but this wasn’t the tv version last year and they did they same thing g with trading places the original was free then they switched it with the tv version
Wonder if there going to put the first one on for free again
21:25 and 21:30 it’s touching that she’s talking to her deceased grandmother before it happened the next day 😢
Cheers to Heather Michele O'Rourke. Into everlasting life above!
I always loved this movie. Just noticed something…Did anyone else notice at the very end scenes where they come out of the cave Tangina is in the frame hunging the family and then the camera scene changes to Taylor (Will Sampson) and Steve( Craig T Nelson) gives the car keys to Taylor the next family scene where they're waving bye to Taylor driving off in the family car, where the hell did Tangina go?
Warrior was delivered to tower of Noel and Smith because I say
It’s funny the dad asked what if he is an escape from the tribal Asylum referring to the Indian man and in a previous movie called one flew over the cuckoo‘s nest with Jack Nicholson the same Indian guy actually did escape from the asylum at the end, just thought that was a funny correlation🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️😂 his name was Will Sampson.
@ 47:47
@ 8:13 she grabs the red yarn without looking.
fantastic movie, i watched it first time on VHS when i was 10 years old and it was so scary. great casting and never forget the soundtrack made by the master Jerry Goldsmith….just perfect !!!
Not so fun fact:
The reason why Dana Freeling wasn't in this movie was because her Actress, Dominique Dunne was tragically str*ngled to death by her ex-boyfriend John Sweeney in October 30th of 1982 in her West HollyWood Home driveway which was the same year "Poltergeist" was released shortly after, dying 5 days later in November 4th of 1982 after being taken off life support and so in turn the writers decided to write her in-universe character in as being in college at the time of the film's events.
"I kahoot with no one."
That should be a shirt.
Man, its so freakin sad that the actresses who played the daughters passed, that first shot of the family and knowing that Dana's gone just makes the movie so heartbreaking. Then in the 3rd movie, Carol Ann is sent to live with her relatives so it would just be the mom dad and the son left, seeing them all together in the first movie at the beginning. Man, it's almost like they really were a family and this horrible thing happened to them and it was us who had to deal with it all.
RIP Dominique Dunne
RIP Heather O' Rourke
This was real to me in person
This is one of those rare sequels that's at least as good as the original, if not better. Julian Beck, rest his soul…looked phenomenally creepy in performance. It's such a shame it took cancer to reach that state.
1:09:34 i never wanted to puke so much in my life
Much scarier now as an adult, with more knowledge of the world and presence of evil, than in childhood 😱😱😱
the old man of death. One of the creepiest characters ever!
the first part of the legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom is pretty much a 1 to 1 copy of the opening scene here I'm calling it here and I dare anyone at Nintendo to call this out
Diddy brought me here 😢
I love how heartfelt the movie is The scenes with the grama always make me cry.
I know it’s a movie but 10:00 mark was sad when you think of her words.
Julian Beck played his role almost too well! But he did a fine job, may he RIP. 💐
They know Americas strength was its love and that’s why it attacked that first 👃🏻.
