Awfully Good Movies is back in the saddle for 2017, and Vin Diesel’s back to the XXX franchise this weekend in RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, so we’re celebrating with Vin’s 2015 fantasy flick THE LAST WITCH HUNTER! With this movie, Vin Diesel tried taking the witch hunter character he plays in DUNGEONS & DRAGONS–yes, Vin Diesel plays DUNGEONS & DRAGONS–and basing a movie around him–yes, they made a $90 million movie based off someone’s D&D character. And even though he co-starred alongside such geek icons like Rose Leslie from GAME OF THRONES, Elijah Wood from LORD OF THE RINGS, and a very sleepy Michael Caine, the movie failed to conjure up any money at the box office or love from the critics. Does it have any redeeming qualities? I’ll tell you this much: Vin Diesel manages to kill a tree-spider creature JUST BY BARRELING THROUGH IT WITH HIS BODY. So yeah, this flick’s got that going for it…which is nice.

I shamelessly, and mostly alone, saw this movie 7 times in theaters lol. It's a great popcorn movie.
I love this movie tbh
Hate to point this out, but the beginning never states that the witch queen ONLY released the plague on that one village, it was clearly THE PLAGUE, as in the the bubonic plague that wiped out 1/3rd of the population of Europe. At the time there were all kinds of theories about it being black magic, a curse from God, etc. The Queen clearly stated this was an attack on mankind.
I'm GLAD I'm not alone that some people actually enjoyed this movie. I've heard they're making a sequel.

I didn't mind this movie! Although I can understand why critics didn't like it, but I liked the fantasy stuff! I do find vin is usually the same character in most movies, maybe it's his voice or something, but i still think he's cool; slightly cooler that he plays D&D.

I found this to be above average and I found his acting good, not great but good. Some work on the screenplay and some better direction for his acting may be, maybe more practice for those emotional scenes and this would have been a really enjoyable movie.

I enjoyed every moment of this movie. On the fun-o-meter I'd give it an 8. No one took themselves too seriously. Unlike some other movies I can think of, Thank you VERY much.
