I Ran Out of Gas in DEATH VALLEY…3 Days in the Desert With the @rmatvmc Crew

When the @rmatvmc crew invited me to come hang out with them and ride in Death Valley for a few days, I jumped at the chance. It was so cool to get the opportunity to ride my Honda CRF300L Rally alongside so many of the colorful characters I’ve seen in their videos. Chase, Justin, Eric, and the whole ragtag off road motorcycle riding crew met me in Death Valley and we spent 3 days riding adventure bikes in the desert to cool destinations like Mengle Pass and the Golar Wash, Barker Ranch (aka The Manson Cabin), Ubehebe Crater, Gold Point, Rhyolite, Cerro Gordo, and so many other cool places.

Check out all these cool Death Valley off road riding routes here: https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/l/death-valley-adventure-ride

All was not adventure motorcycle riding bliss, however. We encountered many obstacles on this adventure ride in the desert. We had to ride around a stuck abandoned Jeep on the toughest section of Mengle Pass, navigate through the deep sand and then over a sheet of ice on one of the high mountain passes, and eventually my Honda CRF300L Rally ran out of gas not once but TWICE in the middle of the desert.

All in all, it was a true adventure ride and I was so stoked to have been invited to be a part of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Adventure Ride series.

  2. Dork, we do not need you advertising new BS viruses through your channel. Do they pay you to do it? Or you are such a moron that you believe it? Stick to motorbikes content, please.

  3. Hint: if the fuel pump is inside the tank, the fuel in the tank is its heat sink. When you run the vehicle low or out of gas you are cooking the fuel pump. It is best to keep at least a 1/4 of a tank of gas for pump longevity. I learned this from a mechanic while working in an auto-parts store, I can only assume it is the same for motorcycles, physics are physics.

  4. Someone needs to put a solar powered drink machine out there.
My question is, if you have the smallest bike with the smallest gas tank, why the heck don't you have an extra tank, bladder or container of gas. Two things you better make sure you have plenty of when entering the desert, Water and Gas.

  5. Something I would like to see is you discussing the temperature conditions more. I see you riding in death valley with the MSR gear and I just think that it has to be unbearably hot. I keep wanting to get it because its one of the only adventure sets that may fit me. However, last time I was in Death Valley, it was 120 degrees and shorts and a T-shirt were too much. In my local area, in 80 degree weather, full mesh jacket and pants with gym shorts and a cooling moisture wicking shirt are too much. How is that gear not causing a heat stroke? EDIT: I started paying attention to your trail tech wondering if I cold figure it out and I spotted 55 degrees which makes way more sense… Have you worn that gear in 80/90 degrees before?

  6. Awesome!

It's a dream of mine to get into motocamping and some ADV motorcycle touring. I'm trying to sell my current bike, a HD Sportster, and your beginner videos have some great information. Leaning towards a lighter 450 bike like the RE Himmy, but thinking about waiting to see what price point the BMW 450 Adv will be in… A Yamaha Tenere 700 is tempting but quite expensive, and folks say it's just too heavy for offroading.

  7. I think the best thing about this is the reality that even an experienced rider makes mistakes, but solves them. Just like any noob with some motivation and ball$ could.

  8. Great video! Death Valley looks like Mars- 100% agree. The Rocky Mountain ATV link looks professional. I hope to see more dirt trail guides similar to the Death Valley site with the Overview, Online Maps Map Downloads, Videos, laws/etiquette, etc. I think this will help promote the sport because I'm finding nearly all dirt roads are fenced off.

  9. The Barker ranch footage was cool. I just finished Tom O’Neal’s book called Chaos about Manson, the Family and the MK Ultra mind control program. It was fascinating.

  10. Notice the Jeep scene, and you will understand why the Transalp is a horrible ADV bike. High-strung motors are no good in technical terrain. You can even hear a guy in the background saying, "It's the bikes fault." The 800DE handled it beautifully, though.
